It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Gies (nee Darby) announce her passing, Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 71 years. Linda was born in Souris, Manitoba. Redvers, Saskatchewan, is where Linda would grow up and meet the love of her life, Rick, and where they were wed, on April 4, 1964. Rick and Linda began their family with Kathy, in Saskatchewan, before moving to Stettler, Alberta, in 1968. Shortly after this move, Gary was born and completed their family. Rick and Linda spent their most recent years in Red Deer, to be closer to family. Linda always had immense passion for her family; in fact, she held her family together and was certain to maintain contact with all of her nieces and nephews. Linda found great joy in going to her grandkids’ sporting events such as baseball, dance, hockey and lacrosse. She was very fond of spending quality time with her “grand-dogs”. Travelling was a significant part of Linda’s life, and she enjoyed the friends she made along the way.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Rick; her daughter, Kathy (Darren); her son, Gary (Rae-anne); her grandchildren, Jordan and Jayme; and her siblings, Peggy, Loretta (Paul), and Greg (Diane).
Linda is predeceased by her father, Cecil; her mother, Maggie; her brothers, Dick and Donald; and her sister, Dolores.
A memorial service will be held at Red Deer Funeral Home on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.reddeerfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers in Linda’s memory, donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospital Foundation
