1931 – 2023
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather (Grampy), Great Grampy born in Comfort Cove Newfoundland on August 21, 1931, has passed away November 1, 2023.
Gerald is survived by his wife Joan Cooper, and Children – Rose (Klaus) Siebeneich, Ramona (Ted) Oldenburger, Jerry Cooper, Keith Cooper, Ken Cooper, and Geoff (Leah) Cooper. 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. Gerald is also predeceased by his wife Hilda Cooper, son Raymond Cooper, son Paul Cooper and 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Gerald went to school in Comfort Cove, when he was 16 years of age moved to Deer Lake where he lived in camp and worked in logging in the bush. He also worked in construction for the US Air Force building the base. He met Hilda at the age of 20 and got married and had 7 children with their firstborn Raymond passing away at a young age. Gerald and Hilda were married for 55 years before Hilda passed on in 2006. Gerald and Hilda moved to Labrador City in 1960 where he then worked in the Iron Mine as an equipment operator and Forman for 15 years. While they were there he built the Salvation Army Church as well as instrumental in getting the Hospital for the Salvation Army running. In 1975 the family moved to Grand Cache Alberta then to Cassier BC and spent 18 years as a heavy equipment training forman. There they moved to Red Deer AB and worked in the Salvation Army Thrift Store and treatment center counselling people with addiction. Shortly after that they had a chance to go to Fort McLeod to work as Salvation Army Officers and ran 2 Thrift stores where they spent many years of happiness. Later they moved back to Red Deer and lived with Rose and Klause till the passing of Hilda. In 2008 with the assistance of Granddaughter Lisa, he met Joan in 2008 and they were married 3 months later. They lived in Stettler and after some time they moved to Innisfail to be closer to family.
Gerald will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
The funeral for Gerald Cooper with be held at the Salvation Army in Red Deer Alberta November 17, 2023, at 2 p.m. Any donations that you wish to contribute in Gerald’s name can be made to any Salvation Army Church. Please join our family after for snacks and refreshments where you can share wonderful memories of the late Gerald Cooper.
