George Wayne Johnson passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 1, 2021 in Red Deer Alberta at 79 years of age. A graveside service attended by family was held at Innisfail Cemetery on Wednesday, February 10th. The freezing cold temperature of that day was overcome by the warm loving bonds of the family that Wayne so passionately nurtured. Holding him dearly in our hearts, it was our honour to gather together to bid him farewell and it remains our honour to keep strong the family bonds, as this was his greatest treasure.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Clarence (Red) and Mary (nee Hoffman) Johnson; 2 brothers Derek (Shirley) and Gary; granddaughter Ashley Layden and great granddaughter Brooke.
He leaves behind his loving wife of over 60 years Ann; son Jeffrey; daughters Debbie Layden (Darcy), Lorilee Gramlich (Greg), Diana Lippert (Dwain); seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and his sister Donna (Cyrus) Little. Also cherished were the two Shirley’s whom he always thanked his brothers for gifting to us and all of Ann’s family who he also held dear. “Uncle Wayne” will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne began life in Penhold before the family moved to a dairy farm near Strathmore, where he made lifetime friends. He spent his life working in the H-Vac industry representing boiler companies Brian Steam and Areco Industries while making friends with everyone he did business with. In the late 90’s he started W Dalton Energy, a company he was so proud of and which was aptly named after one of his grandsons. He was a past president and longtime member of ASHRAE and MCA. In his earlier years, he enjoyed curling, fishing, scuba diving, and especially loved spending summers at the family cabin. His favorite leisure activity which endured throughout the years was the game of golf. Whether it was golfing with his Strathmore buddies, his brothers or business associates, he traveled anywhere that had 18 holes. Very few courses from here to Florida don’t have at least 1 of his divots from a perfect 9 iron.
Wayne was so proud and honoured to be the patriarch of our large family and was such a blessing and major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He never failed to share how much he loved and felt blessed to have his wife, his children, and his family.
