George Harvey Hornaday

George Harvey Hornaday, 80, died peacefully on June 23, 2026 in Red Deer with his loving wife Alice at his side.
George was born and raised in Calgary by parents Irene and Harvey Hornaday, alongside his 3 younger siblings. George was a member of the Calgary Police Service and had many stories of his time on the beat, riding motorcycles, and doing school programs. In 1992, George retired from CPS after 25 years of service, and worked as a bylaw officer in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer. He loved his dogs, golfing, hiking, going camping, and spending winters in Arizona.
George is survived by his wife Alice, and siblings Gail (Ron) Gifford, Jim (Darlene) Hornaday, and Bill (Baby) Hornaday. He will be missed by his stepdaughter Susan (Mark), his granddaughter Shannon (Grant), and his great granddaughters Gabrielle and Willa. He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Mike (Maureen), Cam, Jeff (Ashley), Angela (Chris), Kylie (Luke), Kim (Jessie), and Billy; plus great-nieces Caitlin (Brent), Dylan, Lexie, Blair, and great nephew Logan.
A memorial to celebrate George’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 22 at the Red Deer Legion at 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, AB. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the West Park Lodge and Michener Extendicare for taking care of George during his final months.
