ALWARD
1943 – 2025
George Dalton “Al” Alward of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 2, 2025, at the age of 82 years.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of George, lovingly known as “Al.” He was a man of integrity, strength, and kindness, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Al shared sixty-two wonderful years with his beloved wife, Maggie. Together they raised three sons: Chris, Steve (Brenda), and Jason.
Al found great joy in spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, and especially sharing Fridays with his great-grandson, Ethan, who cherished their weekly lunch outings with “Poppa Al.” Around the home, Al was happiest when fixing, building, or tinkering always improving something and taking pride in every project.
Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, on July 16, 1943, Al served his country with honour and dedication for 35 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
During his distinguished service, he received a Commanding Officer’s Commendation for Meritorious Service with the Communication Squadron Baden-Soellingen, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation for Faithful Service with the 743 Communication Detachment at CFB Calgary.
In his later years, Al enjoyed playing hockey with the Old Timers three times a week and, of course, sharing a well-earned beer with the team afterward.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Maggie; sons Chris, Steve (Brenda), and Jason; grandchildren Amber, Ken, and great-grandson Ethan. He is also survived by his siblings Joan Mulock, Marg Knowles, and Dave Alward. Al was predeceased by his parents, Esther and Charles Alward.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 28th 2025, at the Penhold Memorial Hall, 1123 – Fleming Avenue, Penhold, Alberta from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory may be made to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, P.O. Bag 5030, Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7.
Condolences to George’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “George Alward” in the subject line.
