FRANKLIN GEORGE OMAND JR.
May 23, 1947 – April 1, 2022
Franklin George Omand Jr. suddenly passed away on April 1, 2022, in Red Deer. Frank was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 23, 1947, to Franklin George Omand Sr. and Sylvie Alice Bonne.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Irma Hill and Mary Harmon, and brother George Omand.
Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife Evelyn, first wife Lynda, his children; Bart (Lisa), Lauralee (Chris), Scott (Crystal), Jay and Darlene (Wade), his Grandkids; Patrick, Brandon, Maya, Riley, Shane, Kainen, Kaden, Katherine, Ty, Alexander and Carson, his Great Grandchildren; Niko, Abel, and Liam, his brother; Gordon (Agnes), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frank grew up in Fort Garry, Manitoba. He followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a Red Seal Steamfitter with UA Local 254. He worked throughout Western Canada before meeting the mother of his children and first wife, Lynda Mooney. Frank found steady work that would keep him home at the Canadian National Railway, where he worked in numerous different shops in the Winnipeg area. Frank and Lynda settled down in the St. Norbert community of Winnipeg to raise their 3 children, Bart, Lauralee, and Scott.
Frank met and married the love of his life, Evelyn March nee: Kroeker in 2004. He welcomed the addition of her children, Jay, and Darlene (Wade) and their families into his.
Frank was a member and Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3870 in St. Norbert, where he organized Sunday Bingo, Golf tournaments and many wonderful events.
Frank and Ev moved to Alberta in 2004, where Frank rejoined the UA at Local 488 in Edmonton and worked the remainder of his career in the oil industry. Frank retired in 2013 to Red Deer, Alberta.
Frank loved curling, football, baseball, NASCAR, and his beloved Winnipeg Jets. He travelled with Ev and numerous family and friends to Las Vegas, California, across Canada to Newfoundland and Labrador and numerous NASCAR races including the 2011 Daytona 500.
Frank’s children would like to express extra special thanks to Darlene and Wade who helped Mom with Dad over the past 6 months.
