Frank Wilson 1950-2025
Frank Wilson, a resident of Sylvan Lake, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2025, at the age of 74, with his devoted wife, Kim Purdy, by his side. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose deep commitment to family always took precedence in his life. His legacy as a builder and visionary has left a lasting impact on numerous communities across Alberta, and his influence will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Frank’s greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends—enjoying dinners, summers at the lake, and long drives to visit loved ones. He also found great pleasure in collecting treasures, always accompanied by Kim and his loyal dog, Brutus. Although Frank is no longer with us, his spirit and love will live on in our hearts forever.
Born on April 28th, 1950, in Edmonton, Alberta, Frank was the son of Traute Elizabeth Keding and Russell Wilson. He was one of seven brothers: Robert, Mark, Ronald, Donald, Darcy, and Grant. In 1968, Frank moved to Rainbow Lake to begin his career as a master electrician and eventually found his true calling as an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry. His visionary leadership and determination led to the growth of numerous businesses, impacting communities all across the province of Alberta. Alongside his professional success, Frank met and married Lynne Huff, with whom he raised two sons, Desmond and Chris Wilson.
In 1989, Frank and his family moved to Sylvan Lake, where he continued to build his business empire and deepen his involvement in the community. His contributions to both his industry and the people around him have left an indelible mark on Alberta’s landscape. Frank is survived by his loving wife Kim Purdy, his brothers Robert (Calgary), Mark (Rimbey), Darcy (Yan) (Fort MacMurray), and Grant (Edmonton), his children Desmond (Michelle) (Red Deer), Chris (Michelle) (Kelowna), Jessica (Chuck) (Utah), Landon (Calgary), and Brett (Basia) (Calgary), and his cherished grandchildren: Meadow, Cooper, Carissa, Brie (Desmond); Carter, Alex, Oliver, and Duke (Chris); Chase, Nathan, and Ashlyn (Jessica); Carson, Ronan, and Cash (Landon); Jacob and Liam (Brett). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were dear to him, including Logan, Saiisha, Philip, Mackenzie (Mark), Sydney, and Katherine (Darcy); and cousins Ilse Dubiel (Gene) of New York, Tassey Mariani (Tom) of Maryland, and Rickie Foreman (Schnevus).
Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Traute, his father, Russell, his brothers Ronald and Donald, and his aunt Dora Keding Russo.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at the Red Deer Resort and Casino on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All who knew him are welcome to join in honoring his legacy and remembering the many lives he touched.
