In Loving Memory
Florian Francis Hiebert
“Flo”
1948-2024
Florian passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on August 9, 2024 at the age of 76 years. He was a wonderful husband and father who loved his family dearly and a loyal, generous friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nora, son Laverne (Charlene) and daughter Shannon (Roger). Also left to mourn is his sister Delphine (Don), nieces Rhonda (Michael) and Danielle (Don) and a great nephew Zacheray. He was predeceased by is parents, Peter and Margaret Hiebert and sister Roseanne.
Flo was born in Humboldt, Sask. and was raised on a farm. He attended a one-room schoolhouse where he needed to arrive early and was responsible for starting the stove and keeping it going during school hours. This was a job he took very seriously and would often speak of it. He later transferred to St. Peter’s College in Muenster, Sask. where he continued his studies. In 1966, he moved to Red Deer, AB with his family where he attended Lindsay Thurber Composite High School and took vocational courses in mechanics and wood working.
After high school he started working a popular 24hr truck stop called Summit Esso as one of their mechanics and was eventually promoted to assistant manager. It was during this time that he met his wife, Nora and were blessed with two beautiful children. His successful career in cooling systems and radiator repair spanned across four decades which all started with Bert Amer offering him a job at Amer’s Radiators. From there he worked at Northlands Radiators where the owners expanded and opened a second location known at the time as Hi-Tech Radiators. Here, he was promoted to manager and would retire in 2013.
Flo was an avid RV’er and thoroughly enjoyed camping with his family and friends. Once retired, he looked forward to being a snowbird with his wife and travelling in his motorhome to Hemet, CA where they’d spend the winters. Flo was also fortunate to be able to travel extensively throughout Canada, the US and Internationally. He also made many happy memories with family and friends at their trailer on Glennifer Lake at Carefree Resort.
An early hobby of Flo’s was his passion for radios which included CB’s, short wave and ham. As time progressed, it evolved into mostly listening to the airports, airplanes and the cargo ships and the Coast Guard while vacationing on the BC Coast. A lifelong hobby was his love for gardening. He’d often spend hours in his back yard tending to his vegetables and flowers. He could grow almost anything.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 31 and the ICU at the Red Deer Regional Hospital for the excellent care and compassion given to Florian.
Funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 45th St. in Red Deer, AB on September 10, 2024 @ 11:00 am. Lunch will be served after the service with Interment to follow at Alto Rest Cemetery.
