Florence Crowe (Rutten)
Florence Clara Crowe (Rutten) of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2025 at the age of 97.
She was born on August 9, 1928, and raised on a farm near Marcelin, Saskatchewan with her parents Dena and Leonard Rutten and her eight siblings. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her family.
Florence was working in Saskatoon as a bookkeeper when she met and eventually married Douglas Leo Crowe. They moved to Red Deer in 1953 where they raised eight children.
Florence was a patient and loving mother, and she loved to laugh, sing, play the piano and play cards. She was an accomplished bridge player and received her life masters. She was very musical and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and sudoku. She liked watching sports and she golfed and curled in her earlier years. She was a loyal member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a CWA member, and she sang in the church choir.
She will also be remembered for her amazing cooking skills and for hosting large family Sunday suppers regularly. Her greatest joys were her family and the time she spent with them.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Doug, and her granddaughter, Zama Biro. She is survived by Lloyd Crowe (Lyn), Pat Rosene-Brady (Jack), Don Crowe, Marilyn St.Germain (Brian), Laurie Duncan (Dennis), Carol Sipos (Luc), Stan Crowe, Gary Crowe (Elise). She had 25 grand children and 48 great grandchildren.
Our hearts ache with the loss of our amazing mother, but we cherish the beautiful memories we created. We are grateful for her unconditional love, and for the values she instilled in us.
Florence was cherished by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
