It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Eva Pittman, at the age of 98 years. Eva peacefully passed away on the morning of Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the seniors’ Extendicare Michener Hill facility, Red Deer, Alberta.
Predeceased by parents: Agnetha & Peter D. Dyck, sisters: Katherine, Nettie, and Annie, brothers: Pete, Bill, and George. Survived by sisters: Martha, Helen, and Elizabeth. Eva and Anton Penner (predeceased) welcomed to their family: William (Marian), Virginia (Donald-predeceased), Gordon (Josephina), Leslie (predeceased), Marilyn (Wade), and Laura (Tony) (Chris, former son-in-law). Eva was the loving grandmother of Donna, Audra, Jacqueline (predeceased), Trevor, Douglas, Maria, Wesley, Chelsey, Connie, and Brett; great-grandmother to Carson, Cole, Frank, Jeness, Katelyn (predeceased), Ryan, Kyleigh, Austin, Kassidy, Tyson, Allison, Jack, Oliver, Lily, Kaden, and Shane; great-great-grandmother to Ethan, Harlow, Khaliya, Joseph, Walker, and Fischer. Eva was predeceased by husband Alfred Lachapelle and ex husband Jessie Pittman.
Eva raised her young family of six while living in a number of small south Saskatchewan towns, with the longest stay being in Briercrest where she served as the station agent for several years; upon moving to Regina, she joined the staff of the A&W restaurant in the Rosemount shopping center where she was fondly referred to as the ‘spudmaster’. She started a thriving custodial business while living in Jasper, Alberta, plus served as the office manager and matron with the Jasper RCMP detachment. Through her hard work, she excelled at everything she tried. Her retirement years were largely spent in Devon, Hinton, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Red Deer. Family was most important to Eva and she kept in contact with her sisters and family through Skype and Facebook and treasured family time and holidays when many of us were able to get together. One of her greatest joys was the birth of a new baby in the family and treasuring the many visits of some 38 progeny. Eva was a big sports fan and would be cheering on her Alberta and Saskatchewan Teams in curling on a regular basis. Whenever we hear “HURRY HARD”, we will always think of her. She loved football and hockey and was always searching the crowd to find her grandchildren attending the games.
The Celebration of Life for Eva will be held in Herbert, Saskatchewan at a future date in 2024. Interment of her ashes will be by the grave of her son, Leslie, at Gouldtown Cemetery. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
