She was born on May 12, 1928 in Loverna, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm at Altario, AB. She attended Wheatsheaf School and High School in Consort. Ethel is survived by her children David (Kim) Marcinek, James (Dawn) Marcinek, Jo-Ann (Donny) Gebbink, Helen (Felix) Gebbink, John (Charmaine) Marcinek, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers Ernest (Patricia) Stables, Ronald (Kathy) Stables, Sister in law Grace Stuckky, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Anton Dewald (1958) and second husband Anthony Marcinek (1996), sisters Ruby, Frances, Doris and Elsie, brothers Harold, Victor, Allen and Arthur. Ethel was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Red Deer, and a member of the CWL for over 60 years, serving in various roles. She was also active in many social justice organizations in the community including Red Deer Pro Life, served as Board Member for Catholic Social Services along with her husband Tony, and volunteered at Our Lady of Victory Camp as a cook for over 20 years. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling together and wintering in Mesa, Arizona for several years; a highlight in later years was a trip to the Maritimes with her daughters. She was a warm, caring, devoted loving mother, grandmother, sister, mother in law, aunt and friend and will be missed by all. Her smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten, even to her very last day. We would like to thank the staff and Villa Marie “family” for all of their love and support shown toward Mom and our family during this difficult time. Funeral prayers will be held on Monday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parish at 5508-48A Ave in Red Deer, followed by Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated by Father Jozef Wroblewski on Tuesday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Magdelene House in Red Deer or the charity of your choice.
