Born February 16, 1936 in Red Deer AB, Ernie passed away at Bethany Care Centre in Sylvan Lake on July 4th, 2020 at the age of 84. He was a lifetime resident and farmer in the Red Deer and Edwell area and loved his hometown community. His was a farming family, and he preferred to be outdoors.
Ernie was the eldest son of the late Jim and Minnie McPhee, and was brother to the late Ron McPhee. He was predeceased by his friend Irene McPhee, and is remembered by his stepchildren; Kevin and Michael Emmerling, Faith Ellert, and their families. He will also be remembered by his nephew and nieces; Rick and Joanne McPhee, and Teri-Lyn McPhee-Deatrich, and their families, as well as his sister-in-law Geri McPhee and many family and friends in the Red Deer and Edwell area.
He volunteered many hours at the Sunnybrook Farm historical museum, repairing and restoring tractors and other farming equipment to be exhibited as well as guiding tours and answering questions. He supported Ducks Unlimited and had nesting sites on his land. He helped young children learn to read, and enjoyed the animal therapy times at Bethany very much. Ernie was well known for his warm smile and his sense of good humor, and with a twinkle in his bright blue eyes would offer help wherever he was able. He was generous and kind to all who knew him, and will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
The family would like to thank the Bethany Care Centre in Sylvan Lake for the loving personal care he received from the Nurses, Care aides, Recreational and Housekeeping staff over the last eight years. They gave care from their hearts for him, and it was noticed and deeply appreciated.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Sunnybrook Farm museum. https://www.sunnybrookfarmmuseum.ca/index.html
