Elsie “Jeanette” SCHOLLIE (Nee Osborne): July 9, 1933- September 12, 2023
The family of Jeanette Schollie of Red Deer sadly announces her passing. Jeanette Osborne was born and raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the second youngest of 11 siblings in her family. She had the fortune in grade 2 to meet an early admirer, Tom Schollie, who would become the love of her life. They continued to attend school together until the end of their grade 12 year, officially dating after Jeanette asked Tom to a Sadie Hawkins dance during high school. Jeanette pursued an RN at Regina General Hospital after her high school studies. Tom and Jeanette were married in 1955, after Tom graduated as a young lawyer. They lived at various times in Tom’s early career in Yorkton, Moose Jaw, and Nipawin, before moving to Saskatoon in 1969 when Tom became a Provincial Court Judge. Over the years, they were thrilled to welcome sons Robert, Greg, Kevin, and daughter Laurie to the family. In 1978, Tom and Jeanette, with their youngest two kids still at home moved to Sherwood Park for three years, and then to Red Deer in 1981, where Tom and Jeanette both resided until their deaths. Believing strongly in the value of mothering and homemaking, Jeanette cared full time with loving dedication for her children, husband, and household until Laurie, the youngest, was involved with post-secondary studies. At that point, Jeanette returned to Red Deer College to do a nursing refresher course. Upon completion, she worked for several years as a nurse in the Associate Medical Clinic in Red Deer. She was a robust walker and loved to ice skate, golf, cycle, and play Bridge. In her 50’s, she ambitiously took up roller blading, and downhill skiing. Her lifelong devotion to her beloved Tom, who predeceased her in 2018 after 63 years of very happy marriage, was unwavering. Though dementia significantly affected her recent years, she always was thrilled and comforted to have many of Tom’s photos close at hand.
In addition to losing her beloved husband Tom in 2018, Jeanette was predeceased by her son, Greg, Greg’s wife Holly, and by her son-in-law David Lacy, but leaves to mourn her sons Rob and Kevin(Joanne), and daughter, Laurie Lacy, grandchildren Courtney, Sarah, Misha, Daniel, Ryan, Sean, David, Brendan, and Leanne, along with five great grandchildren. Beloved nephew Bruce and his wife, Sue, were also very attentive and close to Tom and Jeanette during their final decades of life.
The family would like to thank the patient and dedicated staff at Timberstone Mews in Red Deer where Jeanette spent her final months, and the skilled and attentive palliative staff at Unit 32 at Red Deer Hospital. There will be no public service.
