Eileen was born in Justice, Manitoba on June 14, 1939. She grew up on the family farm in Ingelow, the fourth of eight children to Vernon Lionel and Mary Patricia Elizabeth (nee Chalmers) Jackson. After finishing school at Carberry, she worked at Safeway in Brandon, Manitoba before transferring with the company to Prince George, British Columbia. There, and later in Red Deer, Alberta, she raised her family – her pride and joy. Returning to work in the mid-1980s, Eileen rose to the position of Head Cashier at Red Deer Co-op, working at both the downtown and Deer Park locations.
In retirement, Eileen remained in Red Deer. She was a loyal member of the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT/UCT Council 1021) for 24 years, volunteering at many events and fundraisers. She instilled an ethic of hard work and pursuit of education in her children that was balanced by a dedication to family and love of simple pleasures like playing board games and exploring new places. Eileen loved to crochet and sew. An expert seamstress, she tailored with great care her new daughter-in-law’s wedding dress in November 2019.
Eileen passed away peacefully with her children at her side on August 12, 2020 at Rosefield Care Centre in Innisfail, Alberta where she had lived since July. She was 81 years old.
Eileen is survived by her children, Frank (Jaya) Schober of Fairfield Township, Ohio and Theresa Schober of Laxgalts’ap, British Columbia; five of her seven siblings: Myrtle Hudson and Marjorie McConechy of Brandon, Manitoba, Lionel Jackson of Crossfield, Alberta, Carol Ames of Swan River, Manitoba and Ruth Klyne of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents; her eldest sister, Marion Antonchuk and her youngest brother, Wilfred “Fred” Jackson; and the father of her children, Frank Schober of Buffalo Pound Lake, Saskatchewan.
If friends and loved one’s desire, Memorial Tributes in Eileen’s memory may be made to STARS Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7. Sincere gratitude is extended to the nursing and support staff at Rosefield Care Centre for their care and kindness.
