Edward Adelard Boisvert of Red Deer, AB, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on August 4, 2025, at the age of 79 years.
Ed was born on December 7, 1945, in Westlock, AB, and was raised in St. Paul, AB. He completed his schooling in St. Paul, except for grade 11, which he took at St. Anthony’s Junior Seminary College in Edmonton. On July 31, 1965, Ed married Vera E. McManus, and they moved to Red Deer, where he attended college for upgrading subjects before relocating to Ponoka, AB, in 1966 to enroll in the Psychiatric Nursing program, graduating in June 1969.
In 1972, the Health Department introduced a new program named Community Nursing, and in January 1977, Ed began working with the Alberta Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Commission. Ed volunteered for the City of Red Deer Recreation Department for 19 years, overseeing an adult drop-in basketball group twice weekly. In 1976, Ed became a youth minister at St. Mary’s Parish, devoting every Sunday evening and other days to young fellowship.
Ed had a lifelong passion for aviation. In 1968, he earned his private pilot’s license, and he and Vera rebuilt a 1939 Taylorcraft and a 1962 Rallye. While nursing, Ed also worked at Park Air Service in Ponoka, servicing customer planes to ensure they were airworthy. As a result, Ed flew 172 different types of aircraft, from Cessna 150s to DC-3s. Ed also enjoyed reading, photography, repairing machines, and building furniture.
Ed was a calm, sensible, and level-headed individual who never panicked in a crisis, preventing many accidents.
For Ed, life was about service and helping others. His career with Alberta Health was a testament to his dedication to his profession, and any friend or neighbor knew they could always count on him.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his spouse, Vera Evylen Boisvert; brother Paul-Emile (Gladys) Boisvert; sister Pauline Boman; Louise (Laurent) DeChamplain; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Margaret Boisvert; brothers, Fred Patry, Ron Boisvert; and sister, Josephine Russell.
Special thanks to the staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital for their comforting care and understanding.
