It is with great sadness, the family of Edith Drechsler (nee Glover) announces her passing on November 25, 2021.
Born September 6, 1934 to Rhoda and Joshua Glover at Red Deer general hospital, Edith lived a life that centred around her family, both immediate and extended. The thirteenth of fourteen children, there was always fun to be had at the farm. In the winter, they spent free time skating and sleigh riding. They formed their own family hockey team using Saskatoon branches for sticks and cow turds as pucks. In the summer they played baseball, made ice cream, and celebrated Glover’s Day.
Edith grew up in Hillsdown, attending the one room school. She then completed grade 10 in Red Deer. Subsequently, she got a job at AGT as a telephone operator, while living in Red Deer with her niece Nora, who was like a sister.
Edith met Harry Drechsler through brother Doug, and on July 30, 1955, they were wed. She was embraced with open arms into the Drechsler family, especially by her father-in-law Gustav. She and Harry then settled in Valley Centre where they farmed, raised their family, and contributed to community life. They loved to travel, watch sports, and spend time with family.
Edith was an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Ladies’ Aid, and the Women’s Institute. She was highly involved in her children’s lives and activities and took her taxi role very seriously. Edith was devastated when Harry passed in 1988 and her grandchildren became the light in her life. She was an integral part of their lives as well, always available for a bowl of ice cream or a ride on the lawn mower. When great-grandchildren arrived, she was over the moon.
She will be remembered for her welcoming nature of family and friends, her love of gardening, cooking, and sharing food, and her sense of humour, especially in her later years.
Edith will be dearly missed by her children Patricia (David) Chisholm, Beverley (Mike Mallard) Drechsler, and Randall (Rachelle) Drechsler; daughter-in-law Marie Drechsler; grandchildren Stephanie (Ben) Walkley, Taryn (Dave) Phillips, Adrian, Nora, Tristan, and Karissa Drechsler; great-grandchildren Nathan, Thomas, Adelaide, and Emmeline; brothers Doug and Harry Glover; sister-in-law Lillian Glover; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family in Red Deer and Alberta, Ontario, Winnipeg, and England.
Edith was predeceased by the love of her life Harry Drechsler, son Bradley Drechsler, parents Rhoda and Joshua, siblings George (Dorothy, Beatrice) Glover, Alice (Oscar) Lund, Mary Edmundson, Stanley (Nettie) Glover, Bill (Olive) Glover, Rhoda (Adrian) Tallman, Florence (Bill) Darling, Ned (Mary) Glover, Sam (Theresa) Glover, Ada (Cam) Shantz, Pearl (Bill) Scott, sister-in-law Betty Glover, in-laws Gustav and Martha Drechsler, and sister-in-law Ann (Walter) Moore.
