It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandpa, Douglas Neufeld, after a courageous battle with cancer, at his home, with his wife by his side on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the age of 62 years. Doug was born on March 30, 1957 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest of four siblings. In his early twenties, Doug moved to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, to seek work on the rigs; where he eventually met his future wife, Mary, in 1979. They married on August 30, 1980 and were together for the next forty years; bringing first their daughter, Jennie and then their son, Jesse, into their tight knit little family. During these forty years, Doug worked in the Oil Patch in locations all over Northern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and even a stint overseas in Oman; first as a rig hand, then driller, tool push and finally as an Oilfield Consultant. His strong work ethic, extensive knowledge of his Industry and great sense of humor allowed him to earn the respect of his peers and colleagues, and to amass a great number of friends over the years. His love of fishing, hunting and the outdoors will always define who Doug was, as well as his passion for cooking. Furthermore, his dedication to, and love for his wife and family, will forever remain the true and best testament to his character. In recent years, our two wonderful grandsons joined the family, and Doug loved nothing better than to take the two of them fishing in his boat, attempting to catch “the big one”; and teaching them all he knew about the sport of fishing. He will be dearly missed by his wife of thirty-nine years, Mary; his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jennie and Dr. Shane Johnson; his son, Jesse and his two precious grandsons, Ryland and Braden. We would like to thank Dr. Donovan Stearn, the Staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Doug’s Palliative Care Team and our Pharmacy, for all of their support and help in providing Doug with the best possible care during his month’s long battle with cancer. If desired, in place of flowers, Memorial Donations in Doug’s honor may be made directly to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, 3942 – 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7.
