Donald “Barry” Alfred Anderson
October 24, 1958 – September 1, 2024
It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Barry Anderson on September 1, 2024 at The Red Deer Hospice with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 25 years Jackie, his mother Vicki Anderson, sons Micheal, Mitchell (Tash), stepsons Nicholas (Genel) Burton, Jesse Burton, brother Brad (Diem), sister Bev Anderson, Sisters-in-law Diane (Harvey) Otteson, Thaylia (Keith) Fenc, Debbie (Jim) Moore, Melanie Taylor, brothers-in-law Phillip Taylor, Tony Taylor, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
Barry was predeceased by his father Donald Anderson, brother Bryan Anderson and mother-in-law Carmen Taylor.
Barry was born in Rimbey, Alberta and at the age of three the family moved to McBride, BC and then soon settled in Tete Jaune Cache. After attending Grades 1 – 10 at the Valemount school, he decided to relocate back to Alberta in 1974. Barry started his career in the oilpatch in 1975 before retiring in 2008 with the sale of Care Industries Ltd.
We use the term “retired” loosely as in the last 16 years Barry continued to keep very busy with projects such as rebuilding Naden Lodge on the Haida Gwaii, managing his commercial real estate, running the loader back at Care Industries and whoever else he could lend a hand to.
Jackie & Barry enjoyed travelling, golfing and spending winters in La Quinta, CA and Las Vegas. But most importantly was the time spent with family and friends. Barry’s kindness and generosity created lifelong friendships and memories and greatly impacted the lives of many.
Barry was a pillar to his family and will be loved and forever missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Colin Holmes, The Red Deer Cancer Centre, Unit 32 nurses at the Red Deer Hospital and The Red Deer Hospice for the wonderful care given to Barry throughout his illness. A special thanks to Darren Wasylowich, Carrie & Glenn Barre, Jeff & Sandy Rush, Ron & Susan Zutz and numerous other close friends and family for their love and support throughout the years but especially the last 9 months.
A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at the Crossroads Church, 38105 Range Rd. 275, Red Deer on September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
