Peacefully on Saturday, February 6th, 2021, Denis passed away with family by his side at the Red Deer Hospice.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert; sister, Diane; brother in- law, Mike; mother in- law, Doreen; and father in- law, Harold. Denis will be lovingly remembered by his wife Deb; son Brandin (Jennifer); daughter Tricia (Dale); grandchildren Zachary, Carter, Autumn, Seth, Easton; mother, Fern; brother, Roger (Linda); sisters, Suzanne, Leanne (Ray); and many more loving extended family members and friends.
Denis loved hockey, swimming, football, hunting, fishing, and boating, but most of all spending time with his beloved family. In his early adulthood Denis worked as a dairy farmer, construction worker, and worked in the oilfield. He ultimately followed his passion for teaching and worked tirelessly to obtain his Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Regina in 1992, and his Master of Education Degree from the University of Calgary in 2004. He worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator for 28 years. His legacy is the impact that he had on his students, inspiring them to follow their passion. He was heavily involved in coaching school sports, as well as coaching his children in various sports such as hockey, swimming, and soccer. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan in all aspects of their lives. Denis loved to travel with his wife Deb throughout Western Canada, the United States and Europe to watch his son Brandin play hockey, as well as taking vacations to sun destinations. His two favorite vacation spots were at the family fishing camp in Northern SK (Kemp Lake) and spending time on the boat at Wood Lake, BC.
The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Rattan, Dr. McCall, the staff in Palliative Care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, and the staff of the Red Deer Hospice for their care in Denis’ last days.
