On Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, Deirdre Graboski, beloved wife and mother, passed away at the age of 80. Deirdre, Dede to family and friends, was born on November, 12th, 1942 in St Louis 7 to David and Robin Jones. Dede attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she met her husband Gilbert Graboski. Dede and Gilbert were married on December 29th, 1960, after which they moved to Canada. They eventually settled in Red Deer, Alberta where they raised a son, Kevin, and two daughters, Robin and Wendy.
In support of her love of education, Dede finished her teaching degree at the University of Alberta and then became an elementary school librarian, a job that combined her love for books with a chance to work with young people. Dede loved following current events, especially politics, and would devour newspapers and hours of broadcast news on a daily basis. If you wanted to know what you should think about anything happening in our country or countries nearby, you only had to ask Dede.
Dede was preceded in death by her brother David Lance, and her parents Robin and David. She is survived by her husband Gilbert and their three children, her three grandchildren, and her brother Michael.
Services will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to one of her favorite causes, the Red Deer Public Library. Online donations may be made via Canada Helps at:
