Eric passed away suddenly on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Togo, SK to Molly and Jacob Giest. He had 3 brothers; Dan, Jack, and Archie; one sister Mary. Eric’s parents farmed near Togo and he attended Liberal School. At the age of 20, Eric left home and worked at Lynn Lake, MB. In 1954 he moved to Flin Flon, MB and worked for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. Shortly after in 1957, he married Arlene. They just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in December. In 1959, Eric was transferred to Snow Lake, MB and remained there until 1964. They then moved to Allen, SK where he worked in the Potash Mine. Eric left mining in 1967 to be an Iron Worker at the Pulp Mill in Prince Albert, SK. From there, Eric and Arlene moved to Calgary, AB where Eric worked in the yard for Cana and did various construction jobs until the late 1980s. He retired in 1989 and he and Arlene moved back to the country. They lived in Innisfail, Didsbury, and Olds. During these times, Eric could always be found outdoors. He loved camping in his younger years, hunting, and quadding. There was always a dog on his heels, and he enjoyed collecting eggs from his own chickens. Eric was not a man of many words, but was always there to lend a helping hand to all of his friends that will remember him fondly. Eric is survived by his loving wife, Arlene; brother Archie; his family, as well as numerous other family members.
