He was predeceased by his parents Isaac and Agnes Friesen. He will be remembered by his wife of 65 years Donna; sons Bill, Gordon (Maribeth), Norman, Daryl (Lois); grandchildren Kyle (Stephanie), Grant, Adam (Kylie), Erin; great grandchild Sawyer. Siblings Jack (Trudy), Ellie Mae (Charlie), Howard (Lil) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave enjoyed a good project. He helped with construction projects on many homes and yards with family and neighbours. He enjoyed many sports and would cheer for any teams from B.C. except baseball which he always cheered for the Blue Jays. He also loved living in the country. Dave and Donna lived on their “farm” (now considered an acreage) for 50 years. There were many different types of farming tried: field crops, dairy, beef cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, but there were always chickens.
As a career Dave worked at the Lacombe Research Station for 35 years until 1991. After he retired, he had a few side businesses including a weed spraying testing business and seeder rental business. Community involvement was important to Dave. He coached and refereed hockey, was a Boy Scout leader and cadet leader, was a firefighter for almost 30 years, and a Justice of the Peace. He was a Legion member for many years and was a bingo caller as well.
A celebration of life will take place at 2:00 pm Tuesday July 19th at the Lacombe Legion, 5138 49 Street, Lacombe Alberta, T4L 1J2.
The family is very grateful to different groups that helped him in the last years of his life. To list a few Lacombe Homecare, Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, Red Deer Regional Hospital, and Bethany CollegeSide.
