David Christopher Hernon
1947 – 2024
David Hernon of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on October 20, 2024, at the age of 77.
Dave was a man with a heart of gold. After his birth in Manchester, England, he was voted the cutest baby in the city. He moved to Australia at the age of 4 where he grew up on a hearty dose of scientific curiosity, which he passed on to anyone who would listen. After living in England, Australia, and the United States, his adventurous spirit led him to Canada. He made his way to Grenfell, Saskatchewan where he met his beloved wife, Donna. He lived a loving life with his family in Red Deer, spending the majority of his career in the oilfield before retiring in 2015. He had a deep love for his family, science, nature, history, innovation, adventure, classical music, people, and so much more. He inspired many and will be forever cherished in the hearts of his family.
Dave will lovingly be remembered by his wife Donna; daughter Stacy (John) Bottomley; son Sean (Steph) Hernon; grandchildren Jake (Bri), Sara (Brendan), Katie, Kaden, and Ella; great grandchildren Lola and Connor; brother Sean (Pauline) Hernon; sister Josephine (Bill) Hernon-Smith; brothers-in-law Terry (Marina) Beckett and Rod (June) Beckett; sister-in-law Vesta Shiplack; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Elizabeth Hernon; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ken and Jean Beckett; brother-in-law Darrell Beckett and brother-in-law Garry Shiplack.
The family would also like to thank the staff of the Red Deer Hospital for the fantastic care they showed Dave over the years.
A private family service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, 3942 50a Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7. Condolences to Dave’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Now is the hour
When we must say goodbye
Soon you’ll be sailing far across the sea
While you’re away, oh please remember me
When you return, you’ll find me waiting here.
