Darlene Elizabeth Campbell
February 10, 1943 – May 16, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Darlene Elizabeth Campbell, at the age of 83.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband Tom; her three daughters Cheryl (and the late Tracy), Patti (Kevin) and Debbie (Tim), her five grandchildren, Damian, Colby (Maria), Kayla, Ashley and Hailey; and her three step grandchildren, Rebecca (Kai), Phillip and Jacob (Jamie).
Born and raised in Calgary, Darlene met the love of her life, Tom, during their high school years. These two were inseparable from the start and went on to share 62 wonderful years of marriage. They raised their family in Calgary before moving to Chestermere, where they designed and built their dream home. When that home became too much to manage, they embraced a quieter life at Gull Lake.
Darlene was the heart of her family. She was devoted and the best mom to her daughters – always the first to volunteer at school events, the loudest cheerleader at their sporting events and the most supportive “mama-bear”.
Family camping trips were a cornerstone of Darlene’s life. For many years, weekends were spent in the Bow Valley area with aunts, uncles and cousins – biking, hiking, and creating memories that will last forever. In later years, she and Tom found new adventures at Gull Lake. Darlene loved her time at the lake, always keeping busy with odd jobs; relaxing simply wasn’t in her DNA. One of her favorite chores was cutting the grass on the riding mower – occasionally launching rocks through windows – but she loved every minute of it.
Darlene will also be remembered for her deep love of babies. She was always the first to offer a helping hand, giving tired parents a break as she happily entertained little ones for hours. When she wasn’t holding a baby, she was enjoying one of her other great joys – knitting. She created beautiful blankets, sweaters and bonnets, each one made with love and care.
Her lively spirit, the energy she brought into every room and her unwavering love will remain a lasting part of each of our lives.
Darlene will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
