It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel (“Danny”) Joseph Feicht on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
Danny was born on November 8, 1950, in Pangman, Saskatchewan. He spent his early years in Khedive before moving with his family at age five to Assiniboia, where he attended school and worked various farming jobs growing up. At just 17, Danny set out on his own, moving to Calgary, Alberta, where he apprenticed at SAIT and built a career as a journeyman carpenter. He later became self-employed in the construction industry, taking great pride in his craftsmanship—a defining part of who he was.
In April 1971, Danny married Diana (Diane) Stelter, and together they welcomed their two children, Tracey and Trevor. In 1978, the family relocated to Airdrie, Alberta, where they continued to raise their children until Diane’s passing in January 1983. Danny went on to raise his children with strength and devotion, supported by his mother-in-law Doreen Stelter, his sister-in-law Bev (Gord) Cushing, and many family members and friends, for whom he was eternally grateful.
In 1990, Danny met Dee Spray, and together they built not just a home, but a life rooted in resilience, and a shared dream of living close to the land. While living in Airdrie, they purchased a quarter section northwest of Rimbey, Alberta and spent nearly every weekend there for two years—through all seasons—building their dream from the ground up. In 1993, they made the bold decision to leave city life behind entirely.
With no running water, electricity, telephone, or even a proper road, Danny and Dee began with a humble 16-by-16-foot cabin. Over the years, through hard work and determination, that small cabin grew into a warm and welcoming home filled with cherished memories. As time passed, modern conveniences arrived, but they never lost their appreciation for the simple life they created together. They shared 33 wonderful years on that land. Following Dee’s passing in 2023, Danny remained there, surrounded by the life they had built together, until his own passing.
Danny dedicated over 25 years to Parks Canada at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, where his craftsmanship left a lasting mark. He was especially proud of his work replicating the Red River Cart—an iconic feature that continues to be admired by visitors today.
Beyond his work, Danny was known for his vibrant personality. From a young age he had a deep love of music and later spent years playing in a band, always happiest with a guitar in his hands. Whether around a campfire or at home, he never missed an opportunity to play a tune and entertain those around him. Danny was truly the life of the party, with a quick wit, a great sense of humour, and a gift for making everyone feel welcome. He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones, and his laughter will be carried in the hearts of those who knew him.
He will be remembered for his strength, his independence, his craftsmanship, his love and pride for his family, and his adventurous spirit that led him to create a life uniquely his own. Most of all, he will be remembered for the joy he brought to others and the way he made people feel—like they belonged.
Danny will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his cherished family: his daughter, Tracey Verhoeven (Paul), and her children, Gerrit (Grace) and Carter, of Lacombe, Alberta; and his son, Trevor Feicht (Marcy), and their children, Dayne and Shaelyn, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother Bob (Ellamae), many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and neighbours, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Regina Feicht; his siblings, Ron Feicht, Betty Smith, Millie Thompson, and Mary Deminchuk; his granddaughter, Hope Verhoeven; his wife, Diane Feicht; and his beloved partner, Dee Spray. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Doreen and Otto Stelter, Bev and Gord Cushing, and Larry Stelter.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Calgary Foothills Cancer Centre and the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the compassionate care and support shown to Danny.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Blindman River Hall on August 8, 2026, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Danny’s memory to the Central Alberta Cancer Society. Condolences to Danny’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Daniel Feicht” in the subject line.
