It is with tremendous sadness that the Gordon Family of Lacombe announce the sudden passing of their husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and their rock, “Al” on July 23, 2018 at the age of 75 years. He was born on September 2, 1942 to William and Jennie Gordon of Lacombe. Al grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lacombe Composite High School in 1960. On November 1, 1969, Al married the love of his life, Judith Dawn Hellofs. Two years later, Judy and Al celebrated the birth of their son Greg. Al started apprenticing as a carpenter in the early 70’s while working for Ellis Construction and achieved his Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter Certificate in 1975. In 1976 Al was hired by the Government of Alberta, as a field consultant, culminating into the branch manager of the Red Deer Trades and Apprenticeship Branch. After 30 years of dedicated service, Al hung up his tool belt to concentrate on his next career, holidaying with his wife Judy. Al and Judy enjoyed many “sunny” holidays with family and friends, as well as 16 years of summer RV living at the River Creek RV park, Content Bridge. Al was an active member of the Kinsmen Club for over 25 years. He was a ball coach, sat on the library board, and much more.
Al is lovingly remembered by his wife Judy of 48 years; son Greg and wife Lindsay; grandchildren Hugh and Claire Gordon; sister Jean Binning and family; sister Audrey and Bert McKay and family; sister Pat and George Petry and family; brother Murray and Carol Gordon and family; sister-in-law Wendy and Craig Speirs and family, brother-in-law John and Lori Hellofs and family; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
As Al was an avid reader, the family requests donations in memory of Al to the Mary C. Moore library in Lacombe, www.lacombelibrary.com.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
Arrangements and Services have been entrusted to Craig Kanngiesser at Eventide Funeral Home.
