It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Colleen Anne Dennehy on January 19, 2022 in Edmonton, Alberta. Colleen was ninety-three.
Colleen was born in Tarentom, Pennsylvania, USA. She grew up in many areas of the USA, as her family followed her father’s career in the early days of the North American Oil and Gas industry. Colleen was a registered Nurse, and during her training met her late husband, Dennis. Colleen and Dennis went on to establish a large family with 7 Children. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada and made it their lifelong home. Colleen lived and loved until her death.
Colleen was pre-deceased by: her mother and father, her younger brother Michael, husband Dennis, a baby daughter Joan, her oldest son Mark, and a grandson Daniel Elliott. Colleen will be fondly missed and remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Colleen is survived by: her brother Edward Gallagher, children Anne (Roger) Elliott, Shannon (Rick) Arndt, Erin (Roy) Petitpas, Tom (Badia) Dennehy, John (Charlotte) Dennehy and Mary Dennehy. Thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive her.
No one has ever loved us as much as our mother did. Mom had an answer for every problem we shared with her, not always advice we wanted to hear, but wisdom none the less. She was the most intelligent woman many of us will ever meet. Always current on what was going on in the world of politics, had a passion for books, was outspoken on issues of marginalized persons and of course for the plight of women all of her days. She blossomed in her time after our dad passed away, with her gifts shining through her persona which was an inspiration to us all! She will be dearly missed by each and every one of us.
Colleen will also be remembered and missed by her much loved community at the Sunnybrook United Church in Red Deer, Alberta. As well as her many friends in a community where she spent her time over the last four decades.
An invitation only service will be held at the Sunnybrook United Church on Jan 29 2022 at 1:00 pm. This service will be live streamed, and all are welcome to join in the Celebration of Colleen’s life at www.sunnybrookunited.org (worship live stream) Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Red Deer food bank and/ or Sunnybrook United Church
