Colin Lidgett
September 17, 1943 – December 9, 2021
We are saddened to announce the passing of Colin Lidgett at the Innisfail Hospital after a lengthy battle with lung disease. He passed as he lived life, quietly and peacefully.
Colin was born in Sussex, England, and emigrated to Canada with his family at age 5. They settled in the Crestemere area. At age 18, Colin started work for Redwell Servicing, and at 24 was the operator and tool push. He married Dianne in 1964, and they moved to an acreage in the New Hill area in 1973. He bought a rig from Redwell in 1980 and started Codian Services with Dianne. All of his rig hands stayed with him until he sold the rig years later- quite a feat during the oil boom days. Colin then moved on to operating wells for the rest of his working career.
Colin was well known for giving a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to tinker with cars and trucks, and made sure all of his grandchildren had a vehicle he would buy at auctions (once they had a driver’s license!). He enjoyed going to auctions. The vehicles would require a little TLC, and the grandchildren had to help but allowed Colin quality time with each of them. Colin loved family, hunting, fishing, dogs, and a good joke, in that order. For Farrel, Colin was his hero, demonstrating through words and actions the qualities of a genuine man and father.
Colin is survived by his son, Farrel, (CC), grandchildren Ryan (Nancy), Marc (Bobbi), Colin, and Jessica, his sister Rosemary (Lyle), nephews Mike, Mark, and Earl, and sister-in-law Meridelle Chamberlain. Colin was predeceased by the love of his life, Dianne, and we are soothed by the thought of his reunion with her. He had mourned her dearly. Colin was also predeceased by his parents Fred and Edna, and his great-granddaughter Isabella.
Colin will be laid to rest at Hespero Cemetary on December 15, at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to join us for his graveside service. If desired, donations to any SPCA or the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Colin’s name are gratefully appreciated.
