On June 13, 2026, Clifford Ngai Shiu Long passed away at the age of 95 years old.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Lester (Hanna) and Colin (Marta); daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Nicole, Lucas (Marina), Courtney (Nelson), Brandon, Chiara, and Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Leland and Lyndon.
He was predeceased by his son, Martin.
Clifford was born in Guandong, China and survived the second world war. After the war, he moved to Canada and persevered to build his life in a new country. He worked on the railroad, as a carpenter, and at various groceries stores. Then, Clifford and his cousin Fred, started Long’s Mayfair Foods in Sylvan Lake with their family, where they worked tirelessly with few days off. The store served the community for decades, leaving a lasting legacy in the town.
Clifford was also an avid fisherman and meticulously crafted his own lures. Retirement allowed him and Jean to spend more time fishing, often comparing who caught the most fish in the day.
He was a kind and caring man, and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 12:00pm at Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 67 Street), followed by internment at Alto Reste Cemetery, and reception at Dragon City Café.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
