Chua Lay Chun, of Red Deer, Alberta, known by everyone as “Mama”, has passed away peacefully at her home and surrounded by the love of her family on December 9, 2020.
Born on June 4, 1931 in Xiamen, China.
Moved to Philippines at the age of 14 where she met her husband (Tiu Liong Chi) and married at 18 years old. Both started a small business for accessories in Quiapo which then expanded to a garment business for children clothing. In 1986, at the age of 55, they migrated to Canada, and through hard work were able to own a home in 4 years.
Once retired, she spent the rest of her days travelling around the world, continuing to see her family and friends.
She was loving, caring, and very selfless. Made friends with everyone she met as she never fails to smile. She was known as a strong but loving mother and a very caring grandmother, a beautiful woman who lived an amazing life full of love.
Lay Chun is survived by her two sons and two daughters, Lily (Nick), Peter (Rose), Julie (Sandie), of Red Deer, and Tony (Bella) of Quezon City. Her 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves many friends who will miss her dearly.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the subsequent restrictions on gathering, a private funeral service will be held by the family on December 16, 2020 at Eventide Funeral Home.
