Marie Engele passed away in the early morning hours of February 5, 2025 surrounded by her family at the Red Deer Hospice. Marie was born on April 20, 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1973 where she found the love of her life, Phil Engele. Phil & Marie moved to Ponoka, Alberta in 1981 with their 4 children and then to Lacombe, Alberta in 1987 where they stayed until August 2023 then moved to Red Deer, Alberta.
Marie’s career spanned many years working in customer service starting at the Ponoka Co-op, followed by Shoe Chalet, The Gold Brick, Vinet’s Food King, Ok Economy, Extra Foods and finally Lionel’s No Frills, in Lacombe, where she retired in March 2024.
Marie loved her family unconditionally and welcomed many into her home and heart. She enjoyed her friendships that were formed over the years, some for a short time and others for decades. Marie also loved to travel. Some of her greatest adventures were enjoyed on a Rhine River Cruise with her husband, vacations to Mexico with her children and friends; a trip to Bali, Cook Islands and Hawaii and so many others. She loved sharing her stories and pictures from these trips.
Marie is survived by her husband and love of her life, Phil Engele, her sister, Cheryl (Pete) Livingstone and family. Her children, Jennifer (Brian) Mazurkewich, Christine (Jeff) Engele, Colin (Kim) Engele & Pam (Chris) Watts. Eleven grandchildren; Dylan, Daniel, Jayde, Santana, Jasmine, Chance, Amanda, Bailey, Hailey, Kaydance and Carson and three great grandchildren Kingston, Amelia & Haelyn, Aunty Evelyn (Ed) Aston and family, as well as Phil’s extended family, too numerous to name, including his brothers, sisters and their families.
