Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Kay MacIntosh passed away August 11 2020. Kay was born “ Catherine” Seibert, to Carl and Anna Seibert on April 25th 1929, in Medicine Hat Alberta. Carl owned a small store in Medicine Hat, but following the “Great Depression” Carl, Anna, older sister Francis and Catherine moved to Sangudo Alberta where Carl bought a quarter section of land. It was in Sangudo where Catherine (better known now as Katie) grew up.
The story goes, that at a country dance, the very lovely Katie Seibert met and fell in love with the very handsome Lawrence MacIntosh. They were married in 1950. After years in the various towns that Lawrence’s job (in the oil business) took them, they settled in Red Deer. Catherine (now better known as Kay) was kept very busy gardening, canning, freezing, sewing, bike riding, square dancing, camping, raising and loving her family. She enjoyed art and drawing and it was recently discovered that she was an excellent writer (contributed to the book “The Lantern Era”). Kay did go back to work book keeping for a short period when her children were older. In the late 70’s Lawrence and Kay discovered they had a passion for travelling. Whether it was a road trip in their 5th wheel to Alaska or a cruise down The Nile, they enjoyed it all. However her greatest passion was her family. She loved family gatherings and meals together, often followed by by a family sing song. As granddaughter Megan discovered, once she got you to her house for a visit she would come up with all sorts of “tricks” to keep you there just a “little bit longer”.
Following the passing of Lawrence in 2011, it was apparent that Kay was slowly slipping and being taken away from us by that terrible disease called “Alzheimer’s”. The family can not thank enough the staff at Points West Living for their care and compassion during Kay’s time with them.
Kay was predeceased by her parents Carl and Anna, her husband Lawrence, her sister Francis St. John, brother-law Warren St. John, her nephew James St. John and her son-in-law Larry Kemshead. She is survived by her children: Judy Kemshead and family; Davin, Megan, Adam, Ayla and Gabe. Garry (Deb) MacIntosh and family; Sean, Jenn, Mark, Alex, Liam, Maisie, Daniel and Dustin. Janis (Warren Bell) and family; Wriley, Adrienne, Nora, Emmy, Scott, Nick, Bri, Mason, Brooks, and Stuart. She is also survived by a niece Karen (Mike Triemstra) and cousin Frank (Mary Lou) Seibert.
At Kay’s request, a formal funeral service will not be held.
