With heavy hearts we share that Carolyn Brownlie passed away on the evening of April 15, 2022 while surrounded by loved ones. Carolyn fought a long, difficult battle with MS, and is now free from the limits of her failing body.
Carolyn was born on November 17, 1965 in Red Deer. She went to school in Ponoka and Red Deer, graduating high school from Lindsay Thurber in 1983. Carolyn welcomed her first child, Lisa, in 1985. Carolyn was married to the love of her life, Steve Brownlie, on November 25, 1985. Her second child Sarah was born in 1987.
Carolyn loved the outdoors, especially camping and beach days, and spending time with family and friends. Her love of music was infectious, and she could always be heard with the tunes cranked up and singing along. She was the fun mom who came on field trips, hosted many sleepovers, and took so much pride in her children. Her love of Pepsi, Dairy Queen cheeseburgers and vodka paralyzers is well known.
Carolyn worked as a cashier at places such as Kresges and Woolco, but her main occupation was as a wife and stay at home mother to her children. Despite living with debilitating, progressive MS, Carolyn remained full of laughter and with a positive attitude throughout her life.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 36 years, Steve, of Red Deer; her mother Carol Tennant of Red Deer; her daughters Lisa (Steve) Sissons of Edmonton; and Sarah Brownlie of Red Deer; her granddaughter Freya Sissons of Edmonton; niece Tiffany (Ryan) Tennant of Red Deer; nephew Tyler (Kaitlan) Tennant of Sylvan Lake; niece Alicia Seeger; her lifelong friend Carolyn (Greg) Degenhardt of Enderby, BC; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carolyn was predeceased by her brother Brad Tennant, her father Paul Tennant, and her grandson Finley Sissons.
We wish to thank the very caring staff of Extendicare in Red Deer for their support and care that was so freely given during Carolyn’s five year stay there.
At Carolyn’s request, no formal service will be held. A celebration of life will be held for close family and friends on June 11, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada in Carolyn’s name.
