Caroline Grace Swanson
Caroline Grace (Ussery) Swanson, age 43, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2024. Caroline’s loving husband JJ (John James) Swanson of Red Deer, Alberta was by her side. She is survived by her two daughters, Hannah Grace Swanson (8) and Lillian Hope Swanson (7), who were cherished and adored by their devoted mother. Caroline will also be lovingly remembered by her father Stephen Ussery of Springdale, Arkansas; her mother Charlotte Wallen Ussery of Duluth, Georgia; her brother Jon Ussery and his wife Meridith and daughters Cadence, Callie, and Reverie; sister Sarah Ussery and her husband Mark Hall and their daughter, Birdie; brother Joshua Ussery; and sister Rebekah Ussery. Other family members include parents-in-law Bob and Deb Swanson; sister in-law Carrie and Loredo Penner and children Dakota Swanson and Brandon Markley; sister in-law Valerie and Kyle Annas and children Van, Reilly, Isabelle, and Gabrielle; and brother in-law Clay and Jamie Swanson and their children Cheyanne and Logan. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Caroline was predeceased by her grandparents Bill and Ernestine Ussery of Arkansas; and JC and Lenora Wallen of Tennessee.
Caroline grew up near Atlanta, Georgia and played soccer at North Georgia University, graduating with a degree in finance. Her growing Faith in Jesus led her to serve as a volunteer for seven years with Operation Mobilization (OM) on board the Doulos and Logos Hope ships, spreading Knowledge, Help and Hope of Christ in most of the 43 countries she has visited in her travels. She met her husband, JJ, on board the ship and moved to Red Deer after their wedding in 2013.
New to Red Deer, she became active in many circles of friends including her soccer team, Living Stones Church, Missions Committee, Gateway Christian School and Young Moms to name a few. Caroline was passionate about coffee, which was a great way to bring people together. She also loved her cat Scooter, inside jokes, books, traveling, having adventures and documenting them with pictures, and eating good food, particularly steak.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27th at 6:00 PM at Eventide Funeral Home.
A Memorial service will be held at Living Stones Church on Friday, June 28th at 11:00 AM. A live stream of the service will be available at the following link: https://www.livingstones.ab.ca/live/
