Carman Edward Joseph Fankhanel of Eckville, Alberta, passed away after a long battle with cancer, in Red Deer, with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 72 years. Carman was born on August 27, 1946 in Daysland, Alberta, to Cleo and Bernadine Fankhanel. He was one of ten children and he spent his childhood years in Bashaw, Alberta; where he helped on the family farm and worked in the Cheese Factory. Carman met and married the love of his life, Marianne, and they started their family; while they moved out west and helped build and operate the David Thompson Resort. Ten years later, he got started in the oilfield, where he worked most of his adult life, still living in the Eckville Area. Carman was a Foreman for MervePidherney for the last fifteen years in the Industry, until his health made him retire. Throughout his life, he had many interests. He had his Pilots License, enjoyed wood working, snowmobiling, and horse back riding in the mountains. Carmen also enjoyed camping, curling, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and was an avid football fan. Go Roughriders! After his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time visiting with his neighbours and took great pride in his yard, garden and his spectacular Christmas lights, but his greatest love was his family. He will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him. Carman is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty years, Marianne Fankhanel of Eckville, son, Dallas (Rochelle) Fankhanel of Red Deer, daughter, Rita (Cody) Casper of Eckville, five grandchildren, Savanna, Tina, Devon, Asia and Zach, and two great grandchildren, Brexton and Serenity.
