Brett Wesley Lunn
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Brett Wesley Lunn, 56, of Red Deer, Alberta. He died on the afternoon of April 3, 2025, from a heart attack. He is survived by his three beloved children, Lily, Sadie, and Carys; his sister Karen (Mark); his cousins Greg (Jackie), Jason (Colette), Linda, and Sharon (Ben); his ex-wife Rachel; his stepfamily, with whom he was close with his brother Chris (Patty); his aunts and uncle (Deanna, Maureen, and Bill); his six nieces and nephews; many extended relatives and friends; and the family dog, Terry, whom he loved to playfully torment. He is predeceased by his mother Nancy, his father Ken, his uncle Don, and his grandparents on both sides of the family.
Brett was born in Edmonton in August of 1968, and from his early days it was apparent that he was bound to be a troublemaker. His escapades are unrivalled, and he was always quick with a prank, a joke, a silly face, or a crazy hat. When he was eight, the family lived in Ahwaz, Iran, for one year before returning to Alberta. They settled down in 1976 in Red Deer, which became his home. He would meet his lifelong friend, Bob Davidchuk, who sure has a lot of dirt on him after all these years. As a boy, he was active in Scouts with his dad. In his early teens, he discovered the sport that would become his passion: skiing. He began competitive freestyle skiing and became an accomplished mogul and aerial skier, including winning a silver medal at the Canadian National Freestyle Ski Championships in 1987. He took his ariel talents on the road in the late 1980s to many state fairs as Flippo the Clown with the Ramp and Tramp Flying Circus.
A talented artist whether the medium was paint, wood, glass, concrete, or welding, he graduated from Alberta College of Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992. In recent years he was applying his artistic flair to remodeling his home to his unique vision and created several one-of-a-kind pieces as gifts. Brett worked as a tree planter (which he hated), in construction, and in trucking in the 1990s. Man of mystery, he dreamed of having a beachside bar in Fiji while also disliking hot weather and wanting to go to Alaska. In addition to Iran and Fiji, he also travelled through western Europe, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Hawaii.
He found his work home at D&M Concrete in Lacombe and incorporated Triple L Trucking (Lunn–Lunn–Lunn) with Greg and Jason in 2005. Working at D&M became his lifelong career. He loved working with all the people there, and more importantly, getting to boss everyone around. If only his business earnings had allowed him to buy a razor…
Brett married Rachel in 2001. Their three girls were born in 2004 (Lily), 2007 (Sadie), and 2008 (Carys). Brett instantly became a doting father, putting his girls at the centre of everything. He was always there for them, especially being Dad’s Taxi Service. They were the butt of many of his jokes, pranks, and stinky feet in the face. He often commented that he’d sell them for a six-pack each, but nobody wanted to buy them. Of course, anyone who knew him knew that he lived for his three girls, who filled his life with joy, laughter, and pride. His loss leaves a huge hole, and he will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Brett’s life will be held on Friday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Eventide Funeral Home, 4820 45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta. For those wishing to view the service online: https://youtube.com/live/AWlR4IU4m_E?feature=share
