Bjorn Pedersen (Tage Bjorn Haugaard Pedersen) was Poul and Mathilda Pedersen’s 4th child out of 8 children. He was born in Ullerslev, Denmark September 24, 1924.  He passed away on June 28, 2026 in Red Deer. Bjorn was predeceased by his wife, Viola “Babs” Pedersen, on August 5, 2000.  He is survived by his younger sister, Rigmor, and many nieces and nephews with their families in Denmark and Canada.

Bjorn attended school in Denmark. After High School, he signed up in 1945 to serve in the Danish Military for 18 months.  In 1948 he attended Agriculture School, working on many farms in Denmark.

Bjorn emigrated to Canada in May, 1951 to work as a farmhand at Christie’s Turkey Farm, Antler Hill, Alberta. He worked as a farmer, an assistant at a lumber yard in Blackfalds, a Carpenter for Engineered Homes in Red Deer for 20+ years, and then worked as an independent contractor. He was a very skilled carpenter and always had his tools ready for work and to help family and friends needing assistance. Bjorn always had a large garden where he grew all of his vegetables for the entire year.

Bjorn became a Canadian Citizen in 1957. He was always proud of his Danish heritage and a proud Canadian. Bjorn was a member of the Danish Canadian Club. Bjorn met Viola “Babs” Constance Scott at the Penhold Community Dance Hall. They were married on August 15, 1960 and lived in Sylvan Lake for many years before they moved to Parkvale in Red Deer.

Both Babs and Bjorn were both very active and athletic. Bjorn enjoyed walking from Parkvale to Kerry Wood Nature Centre and enjoyed fishing with family in Denmark.. He loved many sports and excelled at gymnastics, badminton, tennis, curling, and horse shoes. Babs and Bjorn loved dancing. Their favourite was the Tango. Babs and Bjorn were very close and involved with family members. They taught, played, and watched many different sports with family members for many generations. Two nephews from Denmark came to live with them and work in Canada for a few years after they finished High School.

The Scott and Pedersen families each had a Celebration with their family members to honour Bjorn; sharing so many wonderful years and memories of their strong, fun, kind and caring brother and uncle.

Bjorn’s family in Canada and in Denmark are all sincerely grateful to the staff and residents of Parkvale Lodge and Villa Marie Covenant Care in Red Deer for their loving care, compassion, and amazing friendships.

In honour of Bjorn’s memory, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and the NorthWest Territories or to The Red Deer Salvation Army.
