Betty Spenceley

Betty Alice Spenceley of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on the morning of Sunday November 20, 2016 at the age of 85 years.
Betty was born November 2, 1931 to Bob and Daisey Roberts in Carolside, Alberta. The family soon moved to their homestead in Centerview Community north of Leslieville, Alberta. Betty loved growing up on the farm; riding horses, hunting with her brother George and tending her own trap line. She moved to Red Deer for high school, where she enjoyed playing on the varsity basketball team.
Betty met John Spenceley on a blind date and they were married November 1, 1950. Together they built a good life farming east of Red Deer in the Balmoral District. Betty was an amazing business woman who loved operating the farm. She especially loved the cattle and the pinnacle of her farm career was having a hundred cow/calf herd. One of the joys of her life was cooking. She provided fabulous meals for her family as well as the men on the farm. Many friends and friends of her children were invited to sit at her table and eat till their heart’s content. There are a lot of children that felt adopted by Betty; sercure in knowing they were being cared for. Betty was a woman of strong character with a warm heart who touched the lives of many. Betty was an accomplished artist who sold many paintings to local art shows. She also loved reading and writing poetry when she wasn’t looking after her garden and yard. Betty loved going dancing, curling and travelling with Johnny. In later years they enjoyed going to old time music shows.
Betty was dearly loved by her family, we will sorely miss her. Betty is survived by her brother George (Joyce) Roberts, her children Jacqueline Spenceley, Jo-Lynn Spenceley, Rick (Judy) Spenceley; Randy (Girlie) Spenceley; Grandchildren Susannah (Stephen) Burrett, Sean Schwark, Anna (Zane) Nolin, Carol (Rob) Hoskin, Johnny Spenceley, Great-Grandchildren Zachary, Blaze, Izabelle, Elizabeth and Abigail.
Betty was predeceased by her husband John Spenceley, parents Bob and Daisey Roberts, and her son Robert Charles Spenceley.
