Bertha “Birdie” Burdick February 22, 1949 – October 3, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Bertha “Birdie” Burdick on October 3, 2025, at Red Deer Regional Hospital, with her loving Daughter, Grandson ,3 youngest sisters and her Best friend by her side.
Born on February 22, 1949, in Welland, Ontario, Birdie was a woman of deep compassion, creativity, and resilience. She pursued her passion for beauty at Marvel College, where she trained in hairdressing and cosmetology. Her clients quickly became friends, drawn in by her warmth, attentive ear, and artistic touch.
Birdie extended her heart even further in her later years by working as a caregiver with seniors at the Golden Circle in Red Deer. Her devotion to others shone through in every gesture—she had a special gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved.
Birdie was predeceased by her father, William “Bill” Edward Swords, and her mother, Esther Kathleen Mary Woods.
She is lovingly survived by her children: James Richardson – Tyler and Justin; Deanna Hicklin – Jeff and Richard Sveinson; Sherri Burdick – Kierra and Aundre Ripman; She also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Linda Swords, Betty Jane Telfer, Gary Swords, Donna (Gus) Jackson, Lilly (Joe) Fletcher, and Julie (Ken) Fletcher.
Birdie will be remembered for her kindness, her fierce love for her family, and the joy she brought into every room she entered. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will be held dearly in the hearts of all who knew her.
Though she may be gone from our sight, her light continues to shine in the lives she touched.
