AnnaBelle McKinnon (nee Petersen)
July 22, 1928 – August 22, 2023
AnnaBelle McKinnon passed away at the age of 95 years, in Calgary, with her daughter Eleanor at her side.
AnnaBelle was born in Three Hills, Alberta to Belle and Martin Petersen. She was predeceased by her husband Dan of 54 years, brother Aylsworth (Pete), sisters Eleanor Davis and Fran Webb. She is survived by her sister Jean Jones, children Duncan, Dale, Eleanor, Murray, their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
AnnaBelle received her teaching certificate in 1947 at the age of 18 and began teaching at Horn Hill and Penhold in one room schools. After a successful and rewarding career as an elementary teacher she retired from Jessie Duncan Elementary School in 1988 to enjoy retired life with Dan in Red Deer. They took great joy from spending time with their family and grandchildren and enjoyed travelling, dancing, golfing, numerous other hobbies and adventures. She was active well into her 80’s. She was a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge. AnnaBelle moved to Calgary in 2019.
AnnaBelle was a fun, enthusiastic mother and grandmother. She had an adventurous, fun-loving spirit and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A service will be held Thursday, August 31 at 11:00 AM at Eventide Funeral Home, 4820-45 St. Red Deer, AB. A family internment will be held at Horn Hill Cemetery, Penhold. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and NWT.
