It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Andrew Norman Clutton on November 14, 2022 at Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 84.
Andrew (known as Andy to family and friends) was born on the family homestead northeast of
Pine Lake Alberta on January 28, 1938. He was the second youngest of a family of nine born to Charles and Thala Clutton. Andy attended the Belgrove school until grade nine. He continued his education at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive Highschool in Red Deer, Alberta. He then returned home to farm with his parents. He met his wife Louise Robillard in Calgary, Alberta in 1971 and the two were married on August 26, 1972 in Banff, Alberta. Together they continued to farm with Charles and Thala. It was during this time that Andy purchased his D6 CAT, and began his career in the oilfield building oil leases, as well as roads, and private yard sites. This career is what enabled Andy and Louise to purchase the farm from Charles and Thala, while growing their own cow/calf operation. Andy and Louise had their son Cory December 30, 1975. In 1977 Andy attended Olds College, enrolling in equipment repair, where he spent many hours learning to rebuild a tractor from top to bottom. On March 22, 1978 Andy and Louise welcomed their daughter Calli.
Andy had a love for a good cow horse. This love led him to purchase two registered Quarter horse mares that would go on to compete in the National Snaffle Bit Futurity throughout Canada and the United States. Once the mares were retired from showing he went on to have them bred and raise more registered Quarter Horses that would be helpful to work his own cattle operation. Andy and Louise also enjoyed travelling with their two children, taking many trips to the United States, and Ontario to visit extended family.
Andy always had a smile on his face when he was in the saddle. He also enjoyed nights playing cards with his friends and family, watching Hockey Night in Canada, and was always up for a good colorful joke. He was a notorious prankster whom many of his friends and family fell victim to. If he found a way to tease you, he would never miss the opportunity. Andy’s humour and the mischievous twinkle in his eye will be fondly remembered.
Andy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise; son Cory (Lynne) and their children Ryen, and Charlie; Daughter Calli (Shawn) and their children Hope, Daphne and Carter.
Funeral service will be held Thursday November 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Crossroads Church (38105, Range Road 275, Red Deer, AB) and tea to follow. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
