After a long yet courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia, Allan passed away in his home at Michener Extended Care in Red Deer at the age of 86. He will be dearly remembered and greatly missed by family and friends.
Allan was born on April 19, 1934 in Millet, Alberta. He was the son of Earnest and Elizabeth (Shaw) Dufva. He grew up on the farm west of Millet and had two brothers, Eugene and Ivan Dufva. In 1952, Allan married Ethel Hallett and they had two children Dale Dufva and Brenda (Jano) Gagnon, two grandchildren Andre (Elizabeth Chant) Gagnon and Janessa (Jesse) Davidson and four great-grandchildren. Allan was a good father and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Allan was a man of few words and had an easy going and caring nature. He was always there to lend a helping hand and thus was an easy man to love. He only had a grade six education but that did not hold him back at all. He bought his first gravel truck at eighteen and would load the gravel by hand with a shovel until later on when he bought his first loader. With hard work and determination, he built a successful trucking company. He was a self-taught man and there was nothing he could not fix or build as long as it was not built with wood. For enjoyment he downhill skied, waterskied, curled, travelled, and was a member of the Lion’s Club.
Later in life he had a companion, Audrey Ogston and thus he added three more children, Lindsey Ogston, Pam (David) Maclean, and Kenneth (Denise) Ogston, as well as eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren to his extended family. Allan was predeceased by Audrey Ogston and brothers Eugene and Ivan Dufva. He is survived by Ethel Dufva and two sister-in-laws Carol Dufva and Eleanor Dufva.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hopfner for his support over the years and to the staff at Michener Extended Care. You became his extended family and we are incredibly grateful for the thoughtfulness and care towards Allan. Also, a big thank you to all the pastors at Michener for sharing the word and being a friend to Allan over the years.
If friends so desire, a donation in Allan’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Parkinson Canada. Considering current health restrictions, we will be holding a memorial service at a later time.
