Alie (Aaltje) Oosterhoff (nee Hento)
1933 – 2021
Our beloved Mom went to her heavenly home on Thursday May 20, 2021.
Alie was born in Glanerbrug, Netherlands June 9, 1933. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. She was disillusioned with Canada in the beginning. She said it was bleak and uninviting and she was homesick for her birth country. But she grew to love Canada and was proud of her Canadian citizenship.
In 1954 Alie married her husband Tim, whom she had originally met in Holland. Tim immigrated to Canada a year after her arrival. Eventually settling in Red Deer they raised their family of 4 boys.
Alie was an avid gardener, a hobby she and Tim greatly enjoyed together and Mom especially had a knack for growing anything.
Mom was a gifted hostess and loved time spent in her kitchen concocting scrumptious baked goods and delicious meals. (It wasn’t a hardship to be part of the tasting crew!!)
She was a longtime member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Red Deer and was a devoted member of the church choir. She loved music, loved to sing and had a beautiful soprano voice.
Alie spent several years in the work force, first in the hospitality industry and later in women’s retail. Mom was always well put together and took pride in her appearance so the clothing industry was a good fit for her.
Above all Mom cherished time with friends and family and her loved ones were always in her thoughts and prayers.
She will be lovingly and sadly missed.
Alie is survived by her 4 sons, Richard (Cheryl), Gary (Susan), Gordon (Cindy), Leon (Connie), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
She is predeceased by her husband Tim, her parents Gerrit and Jacolien and a brother Henry.
Special thanks to the Red Deer Hospice Society for their devoted and loving care and to Dr. J. Badenhorst for his vigilant attentiveness.
