The family of Alice June Thomson are saddened to announce her passing on September 28, 2024 at the Red Deer Hospice. She died peacefully holding her daughter’s hand.
June was born in the Drumheller valley to Heber and Muriel Ridley on September 10, 1942, the youngest of four children. Her three older brothers would tease her and adore her, and she loved growing up with them on the farm.
June made many good friends in her school days and beyond and maintained those relationships for her entire lifetime. She was a kind and loyal friend.
After business college in Calgary, June made her way to Red Deer in 1966, where she would work as a secretary for the City of Red Deer, marry her love Allan, have a family, and relocate to an acreage near Blackfalds. Their home became a central gathering point for family and friends and many many games of cards and many meals occurred around her table.
After being widowed, June moved to Red Deer where she stayed active through volunteering, walking, fitness classes, and time with friends and family. She never met a coffee, rye, or blue top she didn’t like.
She lived a life fueled by her values of kindness, honesty, and finding common ground. She was welcoming to all and loved by all who knew her.
June will be missed by her daughter Sandra; stepson Dave (Denise); stepdaughter Lynn; granddaughters Brooke (Zac) and Paige (Derek); sister in law Marion and Sonia (Greg), as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her, and dear friends. She will also be missed by her special friend Ross Trimble whom she adored, whose love and care for her the last four years was a wonderful and unexpected gift.
June was predeceased by her husband Allan; son Andrew; parents Heber and Muriel; brothers Rolley, Jack, Allen (Evelyn); brother in laws Bob (Berniece), Bill (Klare), sister in laws Beverley, and Betty (Chuck) and niece Linda.
A memorial service for June Thomson will take place on Saturday Oct 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 4310 – 39 Street, Red Deer AB.
