Alan John Watson passed away on March 22, 2026 at the age of 95. Alan was predeceased by the love of his life Myrna Watson (Clutton) after fifty four years of marriage. He was also pre deceased by his parents Harold and Joyce Watson, his sister Shirley Nesbitt, and his brother, and partner in business, Eugene (Gene) Watson. He leaves to mourn his passing, brother Ken Watson, sons Dale (Jenny) Watson, Steven (Lynette) Watson, his loving grandchildren, Stephnie Watson, Shawn (Sarah) Watson, Jody Watson, Melinda (Jordan) Krulicki, Cheri (Tylor) Johannesson, and Shannon (Ben) O’Sullivan, and 6 great grandchildren, Brenden, Ryleigh, Isla, Thea, Ronin, and Kenna. Alan is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and special, longtime friends, Syd Ellis and Vera McDiarmid.
Alan was born in Bracken, Saskatchewan on February 12, 1931. He travelled in a covered wagon with his parents and two brothers, during the Great Depression, to eventually settle in the Pine Lake area where he was raised. It was there that he met his future wife, Myrna Clutton. Myrna and Alan were married on April 23, 1954 and raised their two sons in Red Deer.
With his brother Gene, Alan formed Watson Brothers Plumbing and Heating in 1957 and went on to develop many building projects in Red Deer including the Village Mall and Michener Manor through their company, Swell Investments.
An avid sportsman, Alan enjoyed playing hockey and softball in his early years and later golf and curling, which he participated in until he was 93 years old. He was a staunch Stampeder and Flames fan and hosted several Grey Cup parties with his friends and family. He also enjoyed many activities with friends and family including camping trips, happy times at the cabin, golf tournaments and numerous reunions.
Alan lived a long and productive life, from working on the Alaska highway in his early years to helping develop the City of Red Deer through his building projects. We will truly miss his sense of humour, valued advice, and quiet, loving care for all of us.
Thanks Dad, Rest in Peace.
In lieu of flowers, Alan has requested that donations be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held at the Red Deer Legion on Wednesday, April 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m
