Abraham Van Dorp
January 20, 1926 – October 8, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Abraham Van Dorp at the age of 96. He will be deeply missed by the family and his friends. He is survived by his five children: John (Carol) Van Dorp of Red Deer, Johanna (Arlyn) Sorsdahl of Red Deer, Corrie (Dale) Ziegler of Ardrossan, George (Karen) Van Dorp of Red Deer County, and Abe (Shannon) Van Dorp of Strathcona County, two brothers Dirk Van Dorp and Maarten (Marry) Van Dorp, nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Abraham is predeceased by his wife, Berendina Van Dorp, his parents, Jan and Johanna Van Dorp, two brothers, John Van Dorp and Henk Van Dorp, his sister Corrie Van Koot, and one granddaughter, Erica Van Dorp.
Abraham was born January 20th, 1926, in Schipluiden Netherlands where he grew up on the family farm. When the Netherlands was liberated in May 1945, Abraham immediately joined the 1e Hupva C Division of the Dutch Army and posted in Indonesia from 1945-49. He married the love of his life, Berendina G. Eshuis on March 17, 1954 and immigrated to Canada just a few weeks later. Eventually they settled in Red Deer where Abraham worked at the Michener Centre from 1958-1990. They also built and managed several real-estate properties in Red Deer. In their later years, they travelled throughout North America and the world together and visited family and friends countless times in the Netherlands.
The Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm October 24, 2022 at the First Christian Reformed Church, 16 McVicar Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 0M1.
It will also be live streamed on the service date and can be accessed through the First Christian Reformed Church website https://www.firstcrcreddeer.ca.
