REIMER, Joshua
1995 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joshua ‘Josh’ Darren Nelson Reimer. Josh was born in Vanderhoof, British Columbia on October 22, 1995 and tragically passed away on the morning of Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at the young age of 29 years old.
Josh grew up in Saskatchewan and attended school in Colonsay until grade ten and graduated from Saskatoon Christian School in 2013. Josh was a friend to everyone he met – whether that be through school, sports, church, or anything he was involved in. He was so intentional in all of his relationships. He would phone his friends out of the blue, loved to invite people over, and never wanted to leave anyone out. His motto was “the more the merrier”. At a young age, he started playing sports and quickly excelled at all he did. From hockey, volleyball, badminton, and basketball, to spikeball and disc golf – he did it all. He had a very strong work ethic and was very passionate about all he did, all while maintaining such a humble and uplifting spirit.
He had a deep love for the Lord which was so evidently displayed in his life. He was often found reading Scripture, memorizing verses, meeting with mentors, listening to trusted pastors, and striving to do all he did for the glory of God. He had a passion for missions which was seen through his trips to Honduras, Bolivia, and Northern Ireland. He desired to deepen his knowledge of the Word and chose to attend Millar College of the Bible where he received his two degrees; Bachelor of Biblical Studies in 2017, and Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Ministries in 2018. It was at Millar where he met his wife, Shanyn. They had such a deep and sincere love for each other, and Shanyn’s smile was his favourite sight in the world. They were married on September 29, 2018, and began their life together in Red Deer. Josh and Shanyn had their first daughter, Marlee, in October 2021, and their second daughter, Londyn, in May 2023. Josh was an amazing husband to Shanyn and daddy to his girls and would do anything for them. The joy and pride he felt for his family was evident to everyone.
Josh attended Red Deer Polytechnic where he received his Bachelor of Education degree in 2023, and soon after began teaching at Rimbey Christian School. He loved his job and each student he had the privilege to teach. Josh was a devoted coach and that was reflected in the time that was put into seeing each of his athletes improve. Not only did he teach, and coach, but he had also spent time volunteering with the youth at his church and each one of them looked up to him and was impacted by his loving, tender way of teaching them and drawing them closer to the Lord.
Josh will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Shanyn, his two beautiful daughters, Marlee and Londyn, and a sweet baby due to arrive in July; his parents, Darren and Christy Reimer; his sisters Jamie, Destiny, and Danielle (Braden Anderson); his grandpa, John Reimer; his grandma, Marian Nelson; his parents-in-law, Scott and Barb Cookson; his sisters-in-law, Amy (Austin Bueckert), and Katie (Jaden Suderman); his nieces, Layla and Kali Bueckert; and many extended family and friends.
Josh was predeceased by his two precious babies that he did not get to meet earth-side; his younger brother, Dylan Reimer; his grandma, Joan Reimer; and his grandpa, Elwood Nelson.
Josh will always be remembered for his rosy cheeks, bright smile, and infectious laugh.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NKJV)
