Darcy Leo Lauria, 41, passed away on May 22, 2026, in Alberta following a tragic car accident. Born on April 11, 1985, in Oakville, Ontario, Darcy was the beloved son of Judy Byrne and Peter Lauria. He spent his childhood in Belle River and then attended Walkerville Collegiate Institute in Windsor.
Darcy will be remembered for his magnetic personality, adventurous spirit, and deep love for life—a love surpassed only by his devotion to the true loves of his life: his daughters, Lotus and Freya. Darcy forged a unique path that took him from the oil fields of Alberta and Texas to opening The Orwell Pub in Windsor (a name melding his love of literature with his background in the oil industry). His life was a testament to the fearless pursuit of adventure: surfing in Tofino, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, sailing the Great Lakes, embracing prairie life in Saskatchewan, and swimming with sharks in South Africa.
Darcy had a gift for turning any stranger into a friend, creating an unforgettable connection with everyone he met. People were naturally drawn to him. He never met a dog he didn’t like, especially his long-departed wolf/white shepherd, Mojo. We can learn from Darcy’s short, rich life to be brave, challenge ourselves, and embrace our beautiful country. Take the time to say hello to someone new, check in on those you love, make
that call, and remember that life moves quickly—so capture the small moments that make a
difference.
Above all else, Darcy loved being surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved children, Lotus and Freya, and their mother, Katie McArthur; his mother, Judy Byrne; his brother, Sean (Ashley) and his children, Brennan and Everly; his sister, Brooke Jackson (Scott) and her children, Olive, Eloise, and Mia; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter Lauria; and his grandparents, Catherine (née Chittle) and Leo Byrne, and Theresa (née Lacey) and Roche (“Bud”) Lauria. Darcy held a special place in his heart for his late uncles, Joe Byrne (Audrey), Bob Byrne (Diane), Frank Lauria (Sandra), and The Most Reverend M. Pearse Lacey, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Toronto.
If I ever leave this world alive
l’ll thank you for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll come back down and sit beside your feet tonight
A celebration of Darcy’s life will be announced at a future date.
