Andrea Michelle Schmick
September 14, 1981 – April 1, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrea Michelle Schmick on April 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Andrea was born in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up on the family farm east of Carstairs. She attended kindergarten to grade 6 at Midway School before moving on to Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs. She later graduated from Olds College with a diploma as an Administrative Assistant. After working with several companies, she found her place with the City of Calgary, where she built a meaningful career.
Andrea had a deep love for animals. Her beloved companions, Bailey and Boots, were always by her side, and Koda eagerly awaited her visits to Carstairs. She also cherished her time in 4-H, especially working with her steers-often the wild ones, which she took on with determination and humor.
Her greatest pride and accomplishment in life was her son, Vance. From the moment he was born, Andrea was his fiercest protector and biggest advocate. She put him above everything else and fought tirelessly for him every day of her life.
Andrea’s love extended deeply to her family. She adored her nieces and nephews and would drop everything to be there for them in a heartbeat. Her presence was steady and strong-she carried a quiet confidence that filled a room without her even realizing it.
Though often reserved, Andrea’s personality shone brightly through her laugh, her quick wit, and her signature dry humor and sarcasm. She laughed with her whole body sometimes scrunching her nose and letting out a little snort-bringing joy to those lucky enough to share in those moments.
Andrea is lovingly remembered by her son, Vance Anderson of Airdrie; her partner and love of her life, Tony Moran of Airdrie; her parents, Paul and Judy Schmick of Olds; her sister Paula (Joel) and nephews Kayde and Jace; her brother Scott and nieces Eden and Payton; her sister-in-law Andrea (Kurt) and nephews Caleb and Owen; her father-in-law Joe Moran (Laura); and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her grandparents Sam and Ada Schmick and Don and Clara Rae and her Uncle Grant. Andrea’s strength, love, and quiet but powerful presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held at the Carstairs Community Hall,1100 Lackner Way, Carstairs, Alberta on Friday, April 17, 2026 between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Andrea’s life may do so through a donation to STARS Air Ambulance or the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in her memory.
