Cathy Charlene Hassen of Blackfalds, Alberta, passed away in her home, on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the age of 48 years. Cathy was born to parents, Verna and Moe Hassen, on September 27, 1973, in Red Deer, Alberta, where she was raised with her brother, Clayton. Cathy suffered from debilitating health challenges her entire life, which she handled with absolute grace. Many of her younger years were spent in hospital, with her loving mother, brother, and fiercely protective father by her side. Never one to complain, Cathy chose to focus on the positives, enjoying family trips and spending hours sitting with her mother, appreciating the birds, trees, and other wildlife. In her twenties, Cathy grew to love art. Despite having no professional training, her talent and passion were apparent in every piece she created. Cathy also gave her nurturing heart to her multiple pets, including her three cats, Wizzy, Milo, and Gizmo. She was a tireless advocate for the health and well-being of all animals, making numerous friends along the way who shared her drive. Cathy was fiercely independent and strived to help others in any way she could. Described as having a heart of gold, her kind, gentle spirit truly shone through in everything she did. She gave so much love to those around her and is already so deeply missed. Cathy is survived by her brother Clayton, sister-in-law Krista, and their family.
